Sera Kodama was born in 1981. Studies at Tama Art University, Department of Graphic Design, Tokyo, in 2001-2005. After graduating in 2005, she has worked at several design studios as a freelance graphic designer.  In 2006 she started working as an illustrator for magazines and books.  In 2009 her first picture book CATracters was published from Komichi Shobo (publisher).  Her second picture book Depunzel is soon to be published from the same publisher.

She grew up in suburban Tokyo with plenty of nature that nourished her sense of colors.  In 2010 she spent 4 months in Mexico, seeking new experience with color and form which she obtained from the buildings and folk craft as well as unfamiliar plants.
